Water, sewer, storm drain and dry-utility trenching, set to depth and slope and backfilled to spec. Our specialty.

Underground utility work is the most unforgiving thing an excavation contractor does, and it is some of the most important. A line set to the wrong depth or slope fails inspection or fails in service. A trench backfilled carelessly settles and damages the line it was supposed to protect. Get it wrong and you are digging the whole thing back up.

Underground utilities are a specialty at Pro Excavating & Grading. Across Utah County and the Wasatch Front we trench and install water, sewer, storm drain and dry utilities for commercial and residential projects, set to the depth and slope the plans and code require, bedded and backfilled to spec.

From a single residential service to the full utility package on a commercial site, this is core work we do day in and day out, and it is work you want done by a crew that has done it many times before.

Underground utility work includes:
  • Water service and main lines
  • Sewer laterals and mains set to slope
  • Storm drain and drainage systems
  • Dry-utility trenching and conduit (power, gas, comm)
  • Manholes, structures and tie-ins
  • Proper bedding and compacted backfill
  • Utah Blue Stakes (811) locates before every dig

Wet Utilities: Water, Sewer & Storm

Wet utilities live and die on depth and slope. Water lines have to be buried below frost and pressure-tested. Sewer and storm lines have to carry the exact fall the plans specify, too flat and solids do not move, too steep and liquid outruns them. We set the grade precisely and bed the pipe in the right material so it stays put.

On commercial jobs we tie into mains, set manholes and structures, and coordinate with the civil plans and the city, so the system passes inspection and functions for the long haul.

Dry Utilities & Conduit

Power, gas, communications and other dry utilities need clean, correctly-graded trenches and conduit runs, coordinated with the wet utilities and the rest of the site work. We trench, install conduit and backfill so the utility companies can pull and connect without a hitch.

Sequencing matters: we plan the utility phase so nobody is digging up someone else's work and the site comes together in the right order.

Blue Stakes, Every Time

Every job starts with calling in Utah Blue Stakes (811) locates. Knowing exactly where existing utilities run before a bucket touches the ground protects you, protects us, and keeps the neighborhood's services intact. It is simply how a professional crew operates.

That care carries through the whole job: careful digging around existing lines, proper protection of new ones, and compacted backfill that leaves the site stable and ready for grade.

Questions About Underground Utilities

Do you install commercial and residential utilities?

Yes. We trench and install water, sewer, storm and dry utilities for both. Commercial jobs tie into mains and structures per the civil plans; residential runs bring service to the home. Same standard for depth, slope and backfill on both.

How deep and what slope do sewer and storm lines need?

It depends on the plans and code, but the principles are fixed: below frost and to the exact fall the design specifies. We set the grade precisely so the line carries properly and passes inspection.

Do you call Blue Stakes before digging?

Always. We honor Utah Blue Stakes (811) locates before any trenching. It protects everyone and it is how a professional, established contractor works, every time.
