Footings, basements and building pads dug to plan and compacted to hold, so what you build sits solid.

Everything you build sits on the work nobody sees. The home, the shop, the commercial building, all of it is only as good as the hole it sits in and the compacted ground beneath it. Excavate carelessly, skip compaction, or ignore the soils and rock, and you get settling, cracks and callbacks after the concrete is poured.

Pro Excavating & Grading digs foundations across Utah County for custom homes, production builders and commercial projects. We excavate to the grades and dimensions your plans specify, keep the excavation safe and accurate, and build compacted pads that carry the load for the life of the structure.

We coordinate closely with builders and GCs to hit the numbers on the plan and stay ahead of the pour schedule, because a foundation dig that is late or off-grade holds up every trade behind it.

Foundation excavation includes:
  • Footing, crawlspace and basement excavation to plan
  • Commercial and residential foundations
  • Compacted, engineered building pads
  • Structural fill in controlled lifts
  • Rock and cobble excavation
  • Foundation drainage and positive grading
  • Controlled backfill and compaction

Footings, Basements & Crawlspaces

Digging a foundation is about precision and control. We excavate to the depth and footprint the plans specify, keep the sides clean and stable, and hand the concrete crew a level, accurate hole. On deeper digs we manage the walls and spoil for a safe, workable site.

Utah County ground adds cobble, rock and, near the lake, groundwater. Experienced operators anticipate all three, so the dig stays on schedule instead of turning into a surprise.

Compacted, Engineered Pads

For slab-on-grade construction the pad is the foundation. We strip unsuitable material, place structural fill in controlled lifts, and compact to the design density so the slab does not settle and crack.

We build pads for the material actually on your site, which on the Wasatch Front means accounting for cobble and variable soils, so what you pour stays flat and sound.

Drainage & Backfill

Water is the enemy of any foundation. We slope the surrounding grade away from the structure, accommodate foundation drains where called for, and make sure water has somewhere to go besides against your footings.

At backfill, we place and compact in controlled lifts so the ground around the foundation stays stable and does not settle into a trench line around your new building.

Questions About Foundation Excavation

Do you work directly with my builder or GC?

Yes. Much of our foundation work is coordinated with builders and general contractors. We hit the grades and dimensions on the plans, communicate on schedule, and get the hole ready so the concrete crew keeps moving.

Why is compaction so important?

Because uncompacted fill settles, and when it settles unevenly under a slab or footing, the concrete cracks. Proper compaction in controlled lifts keeps your foundation flat and stable. On Utah's cobble and variable soils it is not a corner worth cutting.

Can you dig a basement in rocky ground?

Yes. We excavate basements and deeper foundations across Utah County regularly, and we plan for the cobble, rock and groundwater the valley can hide, keeping the dig safe, accurate and on schedule.
